Intermediate School Students with Low Vision developing Social, Physical and Orientation and Mobility skills
The students were a given a resource pack which included an adapted map of the CBD area, photo visual cues of Britomart and landmarks in the CBD.
Students were taught how to use the AT machine to buy their tickets and on arrival at Britomart broke into pairs and were given a Scenario to travel to a specific destination. This was a challenging exercise for the students as they needed to find the resources available in an unfamiliar environment and within a limited time-frame.
The group travelled on the City Link bus to the Metro Centre for lunch where they purchased their lunch and socialised. They then walked back to Britomart as an alternative O&M experience.
The students reflected on the day and identified aspects they had experienced that were challenging for people with vision impairment.
