In February the BLENNZ Satellite Class along with some students from Kickstart and Rimu Unit went to a cricket fun day.
This was held at the Parnell Cricket Grounds. The day was organized by the RNZFB Blind Cricket and Hallberg Trust. There was also another team there from Sommerville Special School.
We were lucky enough to have Daniel from RNZFB Blind Cricket and some of his team coached us in all aspects of blind cricket.
In blind cricket, the ball is the important because it has little beads inside it, so it makes a rattling sound. The communication skills are just as important because if you do not tell the blind player when you are bowling the ball they would not know when to get ready.
After we had learnt the basics we got into two teams and put on a demonstration match for Sommerville Special School. After the match we had a BBQ lunch and we also received a free cap and drink bottle.
This was our first cricket day out and we were lucky enough to be invited to participate. A good day was had by all.
