We were thrilled to hold an in-service in March for teachers and teacher aides from primary and secondary schools throughout the Otago region. It was well attended with twenty participants, who support fifteen ākonga. This was our first in-service course at the new BLENNZ Dunedin site and the shared meeting rooms in our building were well utilised during the day.
Some of the activities included learning how to support learners using a cane; independent living skills; adaptations; and assistive equipment. A previous BLENNZ Dunedin learner talked about his experience at school and the impact of working with a teacher aide. We also had a visit from Jack Crawford (optometrist), who busted some of the myths about having a vision impairment.
