Up to 22 immersion courses have been planned for 2013.
The purpose of Immersion courses is to bring learners with a similar teaching need together to gain skills and knowledge in areas of the regular and expanded core curriculum.
They may also focus on the needs of parents or in some cases bring both learners and parents together to support improved outcomes for learners.
An immersion course highlight this year was ‘Playing with Words’ for 10 braille learners 9-12 years. Lisette Wesseling from the Braille Authority of New Zealand Aotearoa Trust (BANZAT) had arranged for the poet Paula Green to run a two- hour workshop on poetry writing.
This not only inspired wonderful student writing but also launched this year’s BANZAT poetry writing competition. Students were able to access Paula’s blog the following day and read their poems with Paula’s comments.
An audio copy of the workshop is available for families upon request. Please contact your child’s RTV if you would like a copy of this.
