This year for the first time two New Zealand BLENNZ students have won scholarships to SCIVIS Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama. Renee Patete has featured in the DomPost describing how she is preparing for her trip next month. Cathrine West, BLENNZ Resource Teacher: Vision, Wellington will be chaperoning Renee on her trip.
Each scholarship student must be chaperoned by a professional who has been working with the student. The role of the chaperone is to support the student, adapt resources as required and work alongside the Space Camp team. There are 200 students who are blind or have low vision who will be attending from around the world.
