Six-year-old Jordan attended the ‘I Can Do It’ Immersion Course for Braille Learners aged 5 – 8. This has been a highlight and talking point for Jordan as she recalls the fun of social interaction with peers and the discoveries made through shared participation in life skills experiences and self-management skills, including a group train trip to purchase supermarket items.
Parents and whanau’s involvement with learning and modelling life skills strategies will assist the student’s transference of learning outcomes to home.
In May an Inservice Day gave teachers and teacher aides an opportunity to learn more about vision impairment.
In the classroom it has been lovely to see their greater understanding of the implication for the learners being translated into the classroom practice.
