On Wednesday 10th July 2013 BLENNZ a farewell function was held for Jane Wells, Principal of BLENNZ who was retiring after 34 years of working in the field of blindness education.
Jane Wells began her career in working with children and young people who are blind and low vision in 1979 when she took on the position of coaching students after school at Homai College and 34 years later retires after a rich and rewarding career in this specialist area of education.
A career which has spanned most of her working life included working in the Resource Room at Manurewa High School, then as National Advisor, Manager Itinerant Services, Homai Campus before being appointed to the position of Senior Manager Assessment and Teaching then finally Principal.
In the closing part of her speech Jane commented that what she had treasured most over the years was the people, the amazing children and young people BLENNZ works with, the dedicated people in the myriad of relationships within BLENNZ and the BLENNZ community and especially the parents and whānau of the children and young people that BLENNZ serves.
During the function Jane was thanked and acknowledged for the enormous contribution, dedication and leadership that she had given to BLENNZ and the wider community for her commitment to the education of children and young people who are blind, deafblind and low vision.
Jane will be greatly missed by the BLENNZ community.
