We have had a recent teaching focus on the close range exploration of real objects – specifically water creatures – with some of our low vision, primary students.
They revelled in the hands-on opportunities to learn more about a range of creatures – real fish, koura, paddle crabs and seahorses.
With the close range access, the students were able to see all of the physical detail in the creatures – ensuring that they were developing accurate visual concepts.
It was wonderful to see the students using their new-found knowledge of this detail in their drawings, and to see their pride in their finished artwork. Similarly, the students were able to express their multi-sensory experiences with the real creatures very effectively in their descriptive writing.
