Hannah’s story about an amazing outing that was organised by the BLENNZ Tauranga staff.
The event was arranged to encouraging student awareness and enjoyment of orchestral music and to provide a social event for those taking part.
On 22nd August 2013 ten BLENNZ students and four RTVs went to see the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra in Whakatane. When we arrived at the Hall we were led to our seats in the front row where we could see the Orchestra warming up. One of the members of the orchestra came over and showed some of us what his French Horn looked like up close.
Before the orchestra started to play, we walked around in small groups with one of the staff who told us what each instrument was called. Some of the members of the orchestra showed us their instruments. Then the Conductor came out and Orchestra started to play Beethoven’s 5th Symphony. Then Jackie Clarke came out and narrated Roald Dahl’s version of Little Red Riding Hood while the Orchestra played the music. This was really amazing. After the concert finished, the Conductor came out and talked to us. It was really cool.
