In March, the Tauranga Visual Resource Centre hosted an in-service for teachers and teacher aides of students with low vision. We had a great turnout of thirteen, coming from all around the Tauranga region.
We started the day off with a session about the eye and how the works and followed this up with a session on glasses and contact lenses run by a local optometrist.
Following morning tea we moved on to Developmental Orientation and Mobility, which involved going outside for an introduction to sighted guide (figure 1). After lunch we had simulation activities, technology and access and adaptions to the curriculum.
It was a great day and the audience really got into it and asked some great specific questions about the students they worked with.
