Over the course of the year, there has been an ongoing interest in emergency services in our community. We have had visits from the fire service with their fire engine and three visits from St Johns Ambulance with their model Ambulance.
The children have had opportunities to compare the sound of the sirens, to explore the uniforms and equipment and to become familiar with and people in the community who help us.
This has led to a deeper level of dramatic play during the sessions with the children taking on various roles: rescuer, doctor, nurse, patient, organizer, and person in need of assistance.
The children are using real medical equipment and other props, such as iPad App’s with real siren sounds, in their play. Children are revisiting actual and imagined experiences as they explore.
