“Kia ora and welcome to the BLENNZ Developmental Orientation & Mobility (DOM) page. DOM is a Specialist Service – like OT and physio – that school students who have Vision Impairment may be able to access to support their ongoing development of their MOTIVATION to MOVE and engage their world. The end goal of DOM is to support the student, their team and family to achieve their desired potential as a pedestrian or traveller in their community. This service is offered to students who have vision impairment because sometimes not being able to see well can impact on a student’s confidence to engage and move in their environment.
The purpose of this page is to share resources associated with DOM. It is not to replace the role of DOM service providers – who may include a Specialist, Resource Teacher Vision and other team members working with the student. These could be discussed and implemented as appropriate to support the student and his or her team and family to ‘move forward’ to the next step with encouraging the student to WANT to engage and be confident in that engagement with their world.
Feel free to download and share these resources, noting the source. The families of the students in the pictures have allowed us to include their child’s image in order to share wider with the communities that are associated with students who have vision impairment. I appreciate hugely their willingness.”
The BLENNZ DOM Service will periodically add to and update the resources in this package so stay tuned for more thoughts and ideas.
