Following the blessing of the new school at Homai Campus on 26th August, the staff began the move from the old buildings the next day.
The first to go was the National Special Formats Library, with hundreds of Braille books being wheeled on trolleys across to the new library.
For a handful of staff, the move marks the end of an era in their professional lives and parting with treasured resources collected over decades is a journey in itself.
The Early Childhood Centre also began their move on the Tuesday, having closed the old centre for two weeks. Their imperative was the need to be ready for the licensing inspection a week later, this licence being essential for the new centre to open on Monday 12th.
Over a matter of days and many long hours of labour colleagues have converted a sea of boxes into a lovingly crafted discovery space.
Later in that week the administration staff and managers then made the move to their new open plan environment, along with Assessment Services and the therapy team.
The last to move will be the students. Those in residence had their first night in their new residential building on Thursday 8th September, following a ‘last night in the old hostel’ celebration the night before.
The students attending the school will begin in their new classrooms on Monday 12th September, as did the early childhood centre which was granted its licence by the Ministry of Education.
