As a large number of the learners with low vision in the Bay of Plenty area are using iPads to support their learning, our team organised a series of training days for different age groups to explore useful apps.
The Tauranga team held four of these training days in both Tauranga and Whakatane.
The learners were introduced to scanning apps and given the opportunity to use their iPads to complete worksheets.
They used screen reader apps to allow them to listen to important information when they were visually fatigued or when the print was too small.
The learners also had the opportunity to talk to each other about how they felt using their iPads at school including the barriers and successes.
All four days were successful. Each time the learners left with new skills in their toolbox and confidence in how to use them.
